The primary riding season runs from mid-May to early September. During June and July, riders experience the phenomenal "Midnight Sun," giving near 24-hour daylight. By October, freezing conditions and morning frost begin to make routes precarious.
Standard third-party liability insurance is mandatory for all motorcycles in Finland. However, we highly recommend comprehensive collision packages that explicitly cover collision hazards with large wild animals (such as moose and reindeer) which are common in dense wooded areas.
Main state highways (Valtatiet) are impeccably paved and kept in superb condition. However, if you plan to explore remote scenic lookouts, national parks, or smaller secondary shortcuts, you will frequently encounter hard-packed gravel paths. Basic gravel balancing confidence is highly beneficial.
Finland enforces speed regulations strictly using yellow automated camera cabinets. Normal speed limits are 80 km/h on countryside secondary asphalt routes and 120 km/h on main highways during summer months. Always strictly respect village boundary markers.
